The Long, but also Short Road.

Intro

I am very happy to have partook in the 48th Ludum Dare, which means “Game to give” (Finally learned that this time). I gave a game that is okay at the max. I put a lot of energy into the game, but the return was not what I desired from even my low expectation. My tantrum aside, I learned a lot and that is the biggest thing to me.

Path Finding

I had been wanting to dip my toes into path finding for a long time, I started with a basic breadth first search algorithm. This was not the smartest thing to do. It works all fine and dandy in college courses, but when it comes to games it takes way to long to find anything at a reasonable time.

Due to this delay I decided to work on the A* algorithm. I finally got it working, but due to a pesky bug, and simple one at that, caused a huge hole in my time line.

Art

I was able to spend just a pinch of time to make the game look some what better than faceless circles and cubes. Giving it a little bit of life. As a programmer though art and things that make games pretty, has never been my forty.

Audio

Non existent we will leave it at that. (Put some creepy music on in the background I recommend the Album, Feather and Skull by Adrian Von Ziegler. Specific song though Reign of the Dark (It is in the listed album)

Conclusion

I “finished” a game! Every game I complete is a step forward in my career path allowing me to expand my mind, fail, and do it better the next time. I do have some connections to this games premise and gameplay, with a little bit more design, it may actually be, dare I say fun. I am excited to train and prepare for the next one. Enjoy!
